Coney Island

I went to Coney Island with some girls in the ward. It really reminded me of old school New York! It was really nice to be at the beach where the air was clean. It was fun to meet new girls in the ward, it was fun to eat a $3.00 microwaved corn dog. Coney Island has been on my "things to do" list...so, CHECK! Done!

Meet the Mets!

Hey everyone. Here's a couple pics of me and Heather at the Mets game the other night. Heather's new job took all their employees to the game (tough gig, huh?) and invited us to go. If they keep this up we're definitely gonna be okay with her new job. Anyway, if you can't tell, that's David Wright at the plate trying to help the Mets come back from being down 7-2 in the bottom of the 9th. They almost did it, scored 3 runs, we thought they were gonna pull it off, but it was still a really exciting game. We're pretty sure we're gonna be Mets fans...kind of have to be since we're only 2 stops away from Shea Stadium on the 7 express, and one of us is tired of rooting for the evil empire.

Good News and Good Views

Hello Everyone! Jed and I just got back from a fun filled weekend in Washington DC. When I say fun, I mean Jed had class from 8-5 and I stayed in the room the majority of the day. Ha ha. It was actually nice to just hang out and not have anything to do.

The good news: I GOT A JOB! I am so excited. The job is with a Technology/Business consulting group called Detica. They seem to have a simliar enviornment and culture that I was used to at my previous job, so it's nice to have something appear normal to me. I start on September 4. My favorite perk? They go on a company trip every year. They just got back from ROME!!!

The good views: The pictures of Jed and I in our nations capitol. Hope you enjoy.

PS. Don't forget to vote! :)

Church

Here's a little video of us walking to church and a couple pictures in front of the building. Church is great so far. We really love our ward and are meeting so many friendly people!

Rainy days and Fridays always get me down...

So, I had EVERY intention of snapping some good pics today. Wouldn't you know it that my camera was out of batteries, so I don't have pictures, but I have stories.
I decide it would be nice to get out of the apt. today and go and eat lunch with Jed. I look outside and see that it's raining, so I grab the umbrella and hit the streets of Manhattan. I am wearing flip flops, because I am not aware of the extent of rain and it just made sense to me. Rubber in Rain? Anyways, I am hitting every wet patch in NYC and the flip flops are holding up to their names, because I am flipping and I am flopping all over the streets. I am laughing out loud because I look so ridiculous sliding on the cement...but eventually I get to my destination. I am closing my umbrella and as I am pushing really hard, my hand slips (because it's wet from the rain) and the umbrella snaps back open and hits me square in the stomach. At this point, I act like nothing at all happens, but it really hurt! So, I start laughing again at the thought of what just happened. I think the majority of people were distracted by their open umbrellas, but I know there was the one who is now telling his family about it over his blog.
Rainy days and Fridays always get me down...

Living in the lap of luxury...

Hey everyone! We FINALLY have a couch! I absolutely love it...It's a really deep chocolate brown. The pictures don't quite do it justice, but I will send them anyways. I am also sending a picture of what we see out our kitchen window. It's a picture of the Chrysler Building, the Empire State Building, and a huge cross smack dab in the middle. It glows red at night...our very own nightlight.
Now, don't get me wrong...it's hot in New York. Don't get me wrong...it's TOUGH to bring groceries up 4 flights of stairs, let along a couch. BUT, the deliverers were DRENCHED in sweat when they came through the door. Drenched to the point that they were dripping on the BRAND NEW COUCH as they were opening it. Drenched to the point that when one looked over my shoulder to see a possible ding, he dripped ON ME! Drenched that as I was walking them out the door, in my barefeet, I slid on a drip of sweat. You're right, I should have offered them a towel and some water. After all, they did deliver our newest member of our family.

Manhattan Moments Vol.1

One of my favorite things about living in NYC is the subway, that is, until something goes wrong—today, something went wrong. Last night it rained like no tomorrow, which meant that when tomorrow finally came, most of the subway lines were down.
Good news: the subway line we take into the city was still working. Bad news: everybody in NYC was now using our subway line, and NYC has a lot of people.
So Heather spent the day getting her infernal baptism to the New York mass transit system and I spent the day doing my best to help Heather get around and get to where she needed to go without shooting someone. For the record, she did great.
But for me at least, the real fun happened on my train ride home. By the end of the workday most of the subways were working again, but many of New York’s citizens were unaware of that and so they were still using our line.
It gets worse; tonight the Mets are in town and our line takes you right to Shea Stadium, great for going to games, sucks for going home. So yeah, it was crowded—Tokyo crowded—the kind of crowded that means there’s not even enough room to read your new book that your new wife bought you.
It gets worse; it’s about 96 degrees outside right now, about 106 in the subway, and with what feels like about the same humidity level.
It gets worse; about halfway through the train ride home the Manhattan Mudslide of diarrhea hit me like a ton of bricks. When it rains it pours, and when it pours, it pours buckets in Manhattan.
It gets better; I made it off the subway with all my stuff, I made it home without any, uh, accidents, and my new beautiful wife was waiting for me in our new beautiful apartment with our beautiful indoor plumbing.
New York City’s tough, no doubt about that, but for now at least there’s no place I’d rather be. You have to see the positive side of life here, no matter how hard life gets, and hey, if you can make it here, you can make it anywhere, right?
